“Disciplining yourself to do what you do know is right and important, although difficult, is the highroad to pride, self-esteem, and personal satisfaction.”
Margaret Thatcher
I think this quote means that when you train yourself to being great person with high self-esteem, mature, and responsible, it is hard work. But once you reach the top of your goal , the high road, you will find out that it is a lot easier to keep working at the top then having to decrease and work harder to get back up. I is better to get to the top and maintain there. It is difficult and hard work but it will pay off in the end.

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work (Part 3)

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work (Part 3)
Brad MacGowan of the Career Center at Newton North High School in Massachusetts, thinks that working can be valuable part of a student’s life, if taken on responsibility. “You can derive a great deal from working, considerably more than just money,” he says. “In most cases, you can acquire a nice dose of discipline and a whole new set of skills and experiences.” In addition, your supervisor may be willing to write a strong college recommendation for you.
School Comes First: Schoolwork, including homework and studying for test, should always be your top priority. MacGowan cautions students who do decide to work, “If you are rushing through your assignments… or not studying enough for test because of work, it’s time to cut back or quit and find a less time-consuming job.”

“What you are will show in what you do.”
Thomas A. Edison
I think this quote means that whatever actions you act on reflect the type of person you are. If you are a prompt person it automatically reflects that you are a person that knows how to manage their time. If you are a person that always gets in trouble at school if you don’t do your work, get send out it shows that you don’t care that you just want to waste people’s time because you have nothing to do. You should care about what people think of you because after all it is you who makes people think who you are. You are the one that makes people see if you are smart, independent, and mature or an imature person who doesn't have a clue of what they want for their future.

Balancing High School and Part Time Jobs (Part 2)

Balancing High School and Part Time Jobs (Part 2)
Voicing your goals to someone else can help you make decisions and figure out your priorities. It can also help you judge whether you can do both—work and study—successfully. To help this question, ask yourself:
J  Am I an organized person?
J  What kind of study habits do I have?
J  Do I make a good use of my available time?
J  Will I be able to manga my schedule effectively if I take on a part-time job?
Think about the pros and cons of working. On the plus side, a job can teach you about commitment, time management and responsibility—and of course.. handling money. On the minus side, a job can cut into the time you have for sleeping, studying and socializing.

She was only allowed to get out of the bathroom to go to school. She was locked up for eight years, her routine was wake up in the morning, go to school, come home, go back in the bathrrom and the same until  the next day. but her granparents who had her locked up were charged $5,000 for child kidnapping and 10 years in jail. Later they reported that she slep on the floor with a blanket but no pillow. I don't know what she did wrong to get punished but this is a far punishement and the girl could have even died. but i bet her grandparents never though of that. about the harm they were doing to their grandaughter.

Like many high school students, you may want- or need—to work part time. working takes a lot of time and energy, though, so before getting a job, make sure that you think about your ability to handle both work and your education.
Important Considerations: You have to weigh a number of factor’s when deciding whether to take on a part-time job. It is important to get as much information as possible, so you can figure out what choice makes the most sense for you. Schedule a meeting with your school counselor to discuss the idea of working. Talk to your counselor about why you want to work and what type of position you’re seeking.

“If it is not right, do not;
if it is not true, do not say it.”
Marcus Aurelius
Roman Emperor from 161 AD to 180 AD
I think this means that if something is not true you don’t need to say it because it lying. And if you know something is wrong you shouldn’t do it because it’s CTW.

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing.”
Theodore Roosevelt
I think this quote means that when in throughout the day you have many decisions to make but the one decision you can make and know you won’t have trouble rethinking or regretting what you choose is when you choose the right thing. In life you will also have many decisions but the key to success is to always choice to do the right thing.

Selecting Your College Courses (Part 5)

Selecting Your College Courses (Part 5)
The Arts
Research indicates that students who participate in the arts often do better in school and on standardized tests. The arts help you recognize patterns, discern differences and similarities, and exercise your mind in unique ways, often outside a traditional classroom setting.
Many colleges require or recommend one or two semesters in the arts. Good choices include studio arts, dance, music, drama. Many students have talents an extraordinary abilities in the arts. Students look within their own repertoire of talents and identify their artistic abilities and take college classes to develop their talents.
Advanced Placement Program (AP)
To be sure you are ready to take on college-level; work, enroll in the most challenging courses you can in high school, such as honors or AP courses. Research consistently shows that students who score a 3.0 or higher on an AP exam typically experience greater academic success and college graduation rates than students who don’t take AP.
Work hard in your righteous pursuits, and you will reap the benefits of self-fulfillment and job satisfaction. Don’t take shortcuts just to “get by”, instead, take challenging and difficult roads (courses) and reach higher mountain peaks of achievement.

“To know what is right and not do it is the worst cowardice”
Confucius
I think this means that when you know you need to do something and don’t do it means that you are a coward, a weak person. Like when you find money on the floor and know who it belongs to and don’t return it you are being a weak person. When you know you need to do something and don’t do it that’s not good.

Selecting Your Courses (Part 4)

Selecting Your Courses (Part 4)
Social Studies
You can better understand local and world events that are happening now by studying the culture and history that has shaped them. Here is a suggested course plan:
v  U.S History (Two Semesters)
v  U.S Government (one Semester)
v  World History or Geography (one Semester)
v  One Additional semester in the above or other areas
Foreign Languages
Solid foreign language study shows colleges you’re willing to stretch beyond the basics. Many colleges require at least two years of study in the same foreign language, and some prefer more.
Learning foreign language can be a challenge but is exciting. Repetition is the key to learning a language, and having conversations with others speaking the same language is the best way to learn this new language. Repetition in a fun way will build your skills thoroughly  as you seek to master new languages.

“Have the courage to say no. have the courage to face the truth. Do the right thing because it’s right. These are the (3) magic keys to living your life with integrity.”
W. Clement Stone
I think this quote means that to choose the right you need the following steps the courage to say no, to face the truth and to do what’s right. If you want to choose the right by denying to drink alcohol you need to build up the courage and say “no”. also if you want to correct a mistake you did you need to face the truth and see what you did that’s wrong and fix it. Also always do the right thing not because you’re force to but because you know it’s the right thing to do.

Selecting College Courses (Part 3)
Science
Science teaches you to think analytically and apply theories to reality. Colleges want to see that you’ve taken at least three years of Laboratory science classes. A good combination includes two semesters of each of the following sciences:
v  Biology
v  Chemistry or physics
v  Earth/Space Science
More competitive schools expect you to take four years of lab science courses. You can add two semesters in one of the following subjects:

v  Chemistry or Physics ( the science you didn’t already study)

Man Returns Stolen Cash to Sears After 60 Years

Man Returns Stolen Cash to Sears After 60 Years
A man from Seattle, Washington returns the cash he stole from a register at sears. He left an envelope inside the envelope was $100 and a note that said that in the late 1940’s he had stolen about 420 from the register. And that now he paid them $100. I think that he did this because he felt guilty and every nigh his conscience kept bugging him about the money he stole. And he felt the weight on his shoulders but, once he return the money he felt free of debt you can say. He didn’t feel guilty. And he didn't have to worryb about thinking of the wrong he had done and the dishonesty he will have to carry, because he went back and fixed his mistake.

Selecting Your Courses (Part 2)

Selecting Your Courses (Part 2)
The following subjects and classes are standard fare for success in high school and beyond, whether you plan to attend a four-year or two-year college.
English (Language Arts)
Take English every year. Traditional courses, such as American and English Literature, help you improve your writing skills, reading comprehension and vocabulary.
Math
You need algebra and geometry to succeed on college entrance  exams and in college math classes--- and in many careers. Take them early on. That way, you’ll be able to enroll in advanced science and math in high school, and show colleges you’re ready for higher-level work.
Most colleges look for students who have taken three years of math in highly school. The more competitive ones require or recommended four years. Each school has its own program, but some of the courses typically offered are:

v  Algebra II
v  Geometry

Selecting Your Courses: Recommended Classes for College Success (Part 1)

Selecting Your Courses: Recommended Classes for College Success (Part 1)
The academic rigor of your high school courses is an important factor in the college admission process. College admission officers see your high school course schedule  as a blueprint of your education. They’re looking for a solid foundation of learning that you can build on in college.
To create that information, take at least five solid academic classes every semester. Start with the basics and then move on to advanced courses. Challenging yourself is part of what makes school fun; but you need a firm grasp of the fundamentals before going on to more advanced work.

“A man without  goal is like a ship without a rudder.”
Thomas Carlyle

I think this quote means that is you don’t have a goal you don’t have nowhere to go. A person can be like a ship they can both sink if something is done wrong. A person that lives below the line can sink just like the Titanic.

The Power of Study Groups (part 4)

The Power of Study Groups (part 4)
Getting the Most of a Session :Here are some tips to help your group get the most out of each study session:
Ø  Decide what you’re going to do in advance.
Ø  Prepare for the session so you can make the most of your time together
Ø  Take turn teaching to reinforce your own knowledge
Ø  Stick to the session topic
By supplementing your individual study with a study group you can reinforced what you’ve learned deepen your standing of complex concepts and maybe  even make a few new friends. Remember that a friend is a person who encourages you to do your best and to achieve on a high level one who pushes you to try a little harder and be a litter better. If someone pulls you down the wrong trails of life than those people are not friends, (they are actually your enemies), and you must avoid them all cost. Whoever said learning can’t be fun? Learning is enjoyable and exciting when you study with others.

The power of Study Groups (Part 3)

The power of Study Groups (Part 3)
Guidelines for Getting a Group Together :Here are some guidelines for creating and running a study group: How many? Create a group of four to six people. In a larger group, it’s easy for someone to get left out and smaller groups can easily get off track.
Who? Pick classmates who seem to share your interest in doing well academically. Look for people who stay alert in class, take notes, ask questions and response to the teacher’s questions. Include someone who understand the material better than you and can explain the concepts and someone who doesn’t understand it as well to whom you can explain the material.
Where? Hold study group session in a place that is free of distractions and that has room to spread out books and notes. . How long? Meet for no more than two to three hours at a time. an hour you’re likely to stay on task.
When? Try to meet regularly on the same day and time each week. Treating the study session as you would other activities helps you to keep to a schedule and ensures that everyone attends.

The Power of Study Groups (Part 2)

The Power of Study Groups (Part 2)

The Benefits of Study Groups: Group study offers other advantages in addition to gaining a deeper understanding of class material. These include the opportunity to: Reinforce note-taking. If your AP Biology notes are unclear, you can ask a member of your study group to help you fill the gaps. Share talents. Each person brings different strengths, such as organizational skills, the ability to stick a task or a capacity for memorization.
Cover more around. Group members may be able to solve a calculus problem together that none would have solved alone.
Benefit from a support system. Members often have common goals, such as good grades. Each person’s work affects the other members, which results in making members supportive of one another. Socialize. It’s more fun to study with others; the give-and-take makes it more interesting. And because it’s more fun, you spend more time studying!

“In life as in football, you won’t go far, unless you know where the goalposts are.”
Arnold Glasgow
I think this quote means that you can have a goal if you don’t know where the goal goes or stops. If you have a goal to do something in life there has to end. Just like there is a start line there has to be a finish line. If you want to do something you set your mind to it but you need to decide okay I start here and I’ll finish here for my goal. You have to set the end of the goal or else you’re not going to go anywhere. Like if you run you won’t know where to stop if there is no finish line.

The Power Of Study Groups (Part 1)

The Power Of Study Groups (Part 1)
Working Together Helps Everyone: You may have noticed that when you’re explaining something you’ve learned to a friend, you being to understand it better yourself. This happens because, when you explain an idea, you need to think more deeply about it.
The same principle makes study groups useful. Studying with others in a small group is helpful because you:
Ø  Think out loud
Ø  Share ideas
Ø  Learn from one another
In an effective study group, you and other students hash out the lesson materials together—explaining concepts, arguing about them, figuring out why one person’s answer differs from another’s—and in the process, you most likely learn more than you would have studying by yourself.

“Nobody ever did, or ever will, escape the consequences of his choices.”
Albert A. Montapert
I think this quote means that the consequences of your choices will catch up with you no matter how hard  you try to run away from them. Once they catch up to you it’s going to be a lot worse. And it’ll be too late to fix the choices.

How To Take on College Studying (Part 3)

How To Take on College Studying (Part 3)

Ø  Don’t skim. Read all material carefully.
Ø  Break up difficult assignments into sections you can digest—chapters, subsections or even paragraphs.
Ø  Look up any words that you don’t understand.
